Yellow Jackets sign four-star defensive tackle Christian Garrett

Georgia Tech stayed on the recruiting trail today by signing four-star defensive tackle and former Georgia player Christian Garrett, who plays at Prince Avenue Christian High School in Georgia. Garrett joins five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty on the list of the most promising young players who have recently decided to play for Georgia Tech. This came after Georgia Tech’s huge upset win over Florida State, which continues to show the momentum of this program under Brent Key.

Garrett committed to Georgia in early June, but decided to reopen his recruitment in early August with Georgia Tech as an early favorite to commit. Garrett landed in the Yellow Jackets class and it is shaping up to be one of the best recruiting classes ever for the Yellow Jackets.

In a new episode of the Bleav in Georgia Tech podcast, RJ and Jackson discuss Garrett’s commitment to Georgia Tech and what it means for future recruiting, as well as their final thoughts on the win over Florida State.

Here’s some more information on Garrett from Georgia Tech On SI recruiting analyst Najeh Wilkins:

“Garrett has continued to improve each year he has played for the Wolverines program. He finished his sophomore season with 56 tackles, seven quarterback hurries, five sacks and three tackles for loss.

He improved on those numbers in his junior season, finishing with 86 tackles, 15 quarterback hurries, nine tackles for loss and five sacks, according to MaxPreps. He is a two-time state champion with the Prince Avenue Wolverines, one of the best teams in the state. On the Wolverines’ way to the state championship, Garrett had a monster game in the semifinals against Bryan County. In that game, he had 10 tackles (season high) and two tackles for loss (season high).

The exciting thing about Garrett is that he played his best football late in the season. I mentioned his dominant game against Bryan County, but he also caused havoc and was a pain to the quarterback. Garrett had a sack in three of the last five games of the season and recorded five or more tackles in every game during the postseason.

According to the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 138 player nationally, the No. 17 defensive player and the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia.

Garrett is a promising player who is a force in the running game and knows how to clog up running lanes and make life difficult for opposing ball carriers. He is also great at creating pressure inside and making the pocket uncomfortable for quarterbacks.”

Georgia Tech has its first home game this Saturday against Georgia State. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
