What you should know about the Clemson Tigers as they face Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs will face the 14th-seeded Clemson Tigers on Saturday at noon at Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

There are many familiar faces on this Clemson Tigers roster, with more than 20 players hailing from the state of Georgia, but there are certain players you’ll want to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday’s game.

Barrett Carter, LB
If you’re a Georgia football fan who follows the stories surrounding player recruitment, you’re no stranger to a North Gwinnett product named Barrett Carter. The former five-star linebacker from the Peach State chose Clemson over playing for Glenn Schumann and the Bulldogs and has developed into a four-year performer for the Tigers. As a rising senior, not only is he their most effective blitzer at the linebacker position, Carter is arguably their biggest playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, and he’s destined to make a blitz play at some point. He’s finished in the top three in tackles and TFLs on this team two seasons in a row. He’s the definition of an impact player on the defensive side of the ball.

Antonio Williams, WR
The Clemson Tigers have endured several down years without a top-tier playmaker at the wide receiver position. In fact, it’s been three full seasons since they’ve had a 1,000-yard receiver in a program where that’s seemed to be a cornerstone of their success for years. Antonio Williams is their best player to break the 1,000-yard mark in 2024, and he plays at a position that should be a concern for Georgia. Williams’ ability to create explosive moments from the slot position is concerning considering Georgia’s biggest question in the DB room in coverage right now is freshman Joenel Aguero at the STAR position.

Peter Woods, DL
Peter Woods was named a Freshman All-American last year as a defensive tackle. He was 6’2″ and 300 pounds as a true freshman, but as a young player he was nothing short of elite in the run game. He hung on at the line of scrimmage in some of their most important games after only coming to college last January. This season, he is expected to switch from DT to defensive end for the Clemson Tigers squad. He will be slotted into the fold of Earnest Greene and Xavier Truss, not on the interior of that Georgia offensive line. Having someone of that size play above the tackles will be a new experience for the Bulldogs.
