Preliminary data shows Columbia schools’ test scores rising

Columbia Public Schools reports a preliminary increase in test scores, with an estimated APR of 74.7%, up from last year’s 70.1%.

The largest point increases were in the two study areas of mathematics with an improvement of 14% and in political science with an improvement of 9%.

This improvement is due to the district’s efforts to increase student achievement in key areas such as communications and mathematics.

Rinehart 100 brings the archery community together in Moberly

Archery enthusiasts gathered at Rothwell Park last weekend for the Rinehart 100 Archery Shoot, featuring 100 creative 3D targets including giraffes, sharks and dinosaurs.

The event attracted participants of all experience levels and many returned because of the unique and fun atmosphere.

Members of the Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports archery team said the sense of community was a major attraction and enjoyed the chance to reconnect and create memories with friends.

Third inmate at Jefferson City Correctional Center dies within two weeks

Pedro Guzman, 35, was pronounced dead on Saturday, but the cause of death has not yet been announced.

The Missouri Department of Corrections said the inmate died at the Jefferson City Correctional Center, making him the third inmate to die in the past two weeks.

The cause of death of the other two occupants is also currently unknown.

Forecast: Foggy Monday afternoon with higher chance of rain later this week

It will remain cloudy overnight and temperatures will fall to around 18 degrees Celsius. There may be some fog early Tuesday.

Showers are expected on Tuesday, mostly south of I-70. The next significant chance of rain will arrive Wednesday morning, bringing showers and thunderstorms.

By Thursday, temperatures will rise to levels close to the seasonal average.

Acting director of Missouri Department of Corrections charged with contempt of court

The deputy director of the Missouri Department of Corrections has been charged with violating a court order to release 82-year-old Howard Roberts, whose conviction was overturned in June.

This is the third time this summer that Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s office has blocked the release of a wrongfully convicted person.

The current director faces fines if he fails to comply. Bailey will run against Democrat Elad Gross in the November election.
