Weber’s hat trick leads to Nebraska’s 3-2 win over Colorado State

On Sunday, the Nebraska football team played its second of five straight home games. The Huskers lost their opening game to Oklahoma State and now hosted Colorado State. Nebraska rebounded from the loss to defeat the Rams 3-2.

Colorado State led the game in shots, firing 17 total shots, 10 of which were on goal. Nebraska fired 13 shots, only five of which were on goal. Cece Villa started as goalie for the Huskers and had to stop the Rams’ 10 shots on goal, making eight saves throughout the game to secure her first win of the season.

Sarah Weber scored all three goals in the win, completing the 35th hat trick in program history. She scored twice in the first half to give the Huskers an early 2-0 lead. Colorado State answered in the second half with an equalizer with over 20 minutes left to play. It didn’t take Weber long to break the tie, however, scoring her hat trick just 26 seconds later.

Weber’s hat trick improved her career mark to 35 goals and moved her to 10th in school history. Florence Belzile and Jordan Zade each had two assists. Gracie English, who transferred from Missouri State, also added an assist.

The Huskers improve their season record to 1-1-0 and will continue their five-game home series against Duke on Thursday night. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+.
