The Pittsburgh Steelers defense got off to a good start in their second preseason game of the 2024 NFL season against the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium.
Aside from TJ Watt, Cameron Heyward and Alex Highsmith – who aren’t being looked at – Nick Herbig has performed well as an edge rusher in two different series.
On the Bills’ first offensive series, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky came on the field to boos from Steelers fans who will hardly forget his time in Pittsburgh. On 3rd & 2 from the Buffalo 36, Trubisky took the snap from the shotgun position. Herbig, lined up at the ROLB spot, crossed behind defensive end Keeanu Benton to shoot into a wide open gap. Trubisky, his fate sealed, had nowhere to go and the play ended in a loss of ten yards.

The Bills were forced to punt the ball back to the Steelers.
On Buffalo’s next offensive series, Herbig and Benton again ended up in the offensive backfield. On 1st & 10 at Buffalo’s 43-yard line, Trubisky again took the snap from the shotgun position and was surrounded as Herbig came around his ankles to prevent the breakaway while Benton completed the sack. Officially, they both had 0.5 sacks for the game.
