Voting for third-party candidates is not beneficial for the environment

I have long been an advocate of green energy and laws that recognize the existential threat posed by climate change.

I welcome the various environmental groups educating the public and petitioning the government to take action to slow global warming and improve air and water quality for all of us.

Unfortunately, such well-meaning groups often campaign against their own interests by stealing votes from the major party candidate who best represents their environmental values.

In 2000, Ralph Nader probably helped elect George W. Bush by stealing votes from Al Gore. Bush then appointed Justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito, both of whom supported the interests of big business and opposed the health and safety of workers. In 2016, Green Party candidate Jill Stein probably helped elect Donald Trump, along with three justices who helped strip the Environmental Protection Agency and other regulators of their regulatory powers.

Now Stein is back in the fold, as is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has sided with Trump. Kennedy has long fought for a clean environment, but intends to help elect one of the most polluting presidents in history.

I hope that those who care about saving our planet and clean air and water realize that Stein and Kennedy are not the solution to their cause. They should vote for Kamala Harris.
