Virginia man charged with threatening Vice President Harris, former President Obama and other officials

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – A Virginia man has been charged with making online threats to Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Frank Lucio Carillo, 66, of Winchester, was charged with 14 counts, according to the Justice Department. These include the following:

  • 5 cases of threats against Vice President Kamala Harris
  • 5 cases of interstate communication threatening to kidnap or harm Vice President Kamala Harris
  • 2 cases of threats against former President Obama
  • 2 cases of interstate communications threatening to kidnap or harm former President Obama

According to court documents, Carillo posted thousands of messages on the social media platform GETTR under the name “joemadarats1.” The FBI reportedly found over 4,000 posts, comments and replies from Carillo targeting various public officials.

Law enforcement investigated the case and confirmed that Carillo used the username “joemadarats1” at his home in Winchester.

On August 2, the FBI executed a search warrant on Carillo’s home and seized a 9mm pistol, an AR-15 rifle, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The investigation is still ongoing.
