Virginia Department of Labor and Industry introduces new youth work permit application system for Virginia citizens

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, USA, August 13, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is pleased to announce the launch of a new modern electronic system that simplifies the issuance of youth labor certifications. The new system modernizes the three-step process so that youth workers, their parents, and employers can apply for a certification in minutes, without delay or the need for a paper application.
“This launch represents another important milestone for DOLI,” said DOLI Commissioner Gary G. Pan. “This system represents a modernization success for the agency and supports the Governor’s initiative to introduce the next generation of workers into the Commonwealth of Virginia’s workforce and economy.”
In Virginia, all youth workers ages 14 and 15 must obtain an employment certification before starting work. When a youth worker receives a job offer, they can submit their application for the certification online. The prospective employer then reviews the information and enters information about the worker’s job duties. Finally, the worker’s parent or legal guardian approves the employment, and the application is forwarded to DOLI for approval.
This innovative system is part of DOLI’s ongoing commitment to improve services and accessibility for all businesses and workers, making it easier for individuals to obtain required certifications and report wage-related issues, and is the first time that youth employment opportunities have been integrated into an online portal.
