As FBSchedules.com has learned, the Virginia Cavaliers have added the Richmond Spiders to their 2031 football schedule.
A copy of the football competition agreement with the University of Richmond was obtained from the University of Virginia through a state Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
Virginia will host Richmond on Saturday, September 20, 2031, at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia. According to the contract copy, the Cavaliers will pay the Spiders a guaranteed $520,000 for the contest.
Richmond is also scheduled to visit Charlottesville on August 31 to kick off the 2024 season. The Spiders will return to Scott Stadium four seasons later on September 23, 2028. Both games have already been announced.
Richmond, a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), will move its football program to the Patriot League in 2025.
Virginia and Richmond have played each other 35 times in a series that began in 1893. The Cavaliers defeated the Spiders 34-17 in their last meeting in 2022, extending their overall lead in the series to 30-3-2.
Other nonconference games in 2031 include Virginia visiting the Washington State Cougars on September 13 and facing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on November 18.
