University of Georgia tuition and online learning fee increases to take effect this fall
In April 2024, the Board of Regents and the University System of Georgia approved the tuition increase at a Board of Regents meeting. Students and families received an email notification from Georgia Southern University Communications and Marketing about these changes in late May.
What is that?
- Tuition fees for undergraduate students in the state increase by 2.5%
- “For in-state Georgia Southern students, this represents an increase of $73 per 15-hour semester, or less than $5 per academic hour. Tuition for out-of-state students will increase by 5%. For out-of-state Georgia Southern students, this represents an increase of $484 per 15-hour semester, or approximately $32 per academic hour,” Georgia Southern Communications and Marketing said in an email.
- In addition to the increase, online students will now also be charged a mandatory “online learning fee,” which also applies to those taking online courses.
Impact on you:
- These updates will apply to Georgia Southern students’ fall 2024 tuition bill
- “Affordability for our students continues to be our top priority as we make decisions about how to best support our students and enable them to graduate. Georgia Southern has remained true to its commitment to finding better ways to support students while being more cost-effective and efficient,” the email said.
- With all these changes, it is important to note that the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships and other grants will continue to apply.
