LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Two people were arrested Wednesday after an investigator was injured during a fentanyl raid in north Lincoln, court records show.
Investigators with the Lincoln/Lancaster Narcotics Task Force followed Jacson Mikaya, 27, and Breeana Barker, 26, to two suspicious locations around 4 p.m. Authorities said the locations were known drug-use hubs.
At one of these locations, Mikaya was observed entering the house twice and staying for a short time, police wrote.
Investigators then followed the two in the vehicle through northwest Lincoln and observed the driver, Barker, allegedly committing several traffic violations before finally coming to a stop in the Lincoln Electric System parking lot near the corner of North 27th and Fairfield Streets.
Investigators entered the parking lot and ordered the two to lie on the ground. Police wrote that when investigators contacted them, Mikaya was standing next to their vehicle and Barker was walking toward LES with $295 in his hand.
Barker immediately complied and was handcuffed. Mikaya attempted to escape and was thrown to the ground by an investigator, police wrote. During the struggle, Mikaya reportedly threw his body weight back and forth, trying to break free from the investigator’s grasp.
According to court documents, the investigator suffered a dislocated finger on his left hand while attempting to arrest Mikaya and was treated at a local hospital.
Another investigator inserted two taser probes into Mikaya’s body, causing him to stop and be handcuffed.
Authorities approached Mikaya and Barker’s vehicle and discovered a partially folded handkerchief containing fentanyl tablets on the passenger floor, police wrote.
While searching the vehicle, investigators discovered 11 fentanyl pills in a tissue, $2,072 in a wallet and additional cash in the vehicle, according to an affidavit. Additionally, foil and a pen tube, both with suspected fentanyl residue, were found in the center console, police allege.
Mikaya was taken to the hospital for evaluation. After being medically examined, he was detained and later charged with possession of a particularly dangerous drug with the intent to resell, assault on a police officer, and possession of money in violation of 28-416.
Barker was charged with possession of an exceptionally dangerous drug with the intent to resell. She was booked on numerous traffic violations for willful reckless driving and released.
At their arraignment Thursday, Mikaya’s bail was set at 10% of $350,000. Barker’s bail was set at 10% of $100,000. Both are due back in court on September 18.
