Three people were killed and one other person was injured in an accident between a train and a minibus in Augusta County, Virginia, on Monday evening, authorities said.
Virginia State Police said a 15-seat van carrying four passengers was traveling from a solar panel construction site in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, when it was struck on the driver’s side by a Norfolk Southern train heading toward Waynesboro shortly after 8 p.m., WHSV reported.
Two men and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene by the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad at 8:13 p.m., the source said. Another passenger was taken to Augusta Health for treatment of her injuries.

The accident occurred at the intersection of the tracks and a private road in the 100 block of Wayne Ave., police said. The first call came in at 8:08 p.m.
“Witnesses just heard the train honking,” police Sergeant CJ Aikens told WVIR. “They looked up and just saw the impact.”
The police spoke to the conductor and the engine driver and concluded that the train did not appear to have exceeded normal speed.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released as police work to notify their families.
The incident remains under investigation.
