Three people arrested after racist incident in Virginia City, Nevada

Three Family members in a rural Nevada Country were arrested after a racist charged Incident in Virginia City which attracted a lot of attention over the weekend.
The Storey County Sheriff’s Office arrested Janis, Gary and Tiffany Miller on August 7 and charged them with various misdemeanors after Ricky Johnson claimed they racially abused and assaulted him at a Hot August Nights event on August 2 while he was collecting signatures for a petition.
The investigation was immediately turned over to the local district attorney’s office, which resulted in arrest warrants for the family. Gary Miller is charged with disturbing the peace and racial harassment, Janis Miller with assault, and Tiffany Miller with delaying a peace officer.
Ricky Johnson expressed his desire to see all those involved charged in an interview with News 4-Fox 11. Johnson recounted how he approached the Millers during the event while collecting signatures for a proposed ballot measure in Nevada. He said, “The first thing this guy said was, ‘Get out of here with the N-word!’ I said, ‘What the f*** did you say?’ He replied to me, ‘I have a gallows tree in my backyard for n***** like (you).'”
Johnson began recording a video that has now been viewed over a million times on TikTok. In the video, Johnson asks Gary Miller to repeat where the gallows tree is, to which Miller replies that it is in Johnson’s backyard.
The video also shows Janis Miller touching Johnson’s arm and attempting to lead him out of the garage where the altercation took place. Johnson called this assault and demanded that charges be filed.
“I want them charged. That’s the justice I want – that they’re charged. And I want it to be made clear that this will not be accepted in Virginia City, Nevada. It will not be accepted here. It will not be accepted anywhere,” Johnson said.
The organizers of Hot August Nights condemned the Millers’ behavior and permanently banned them from the annual event.
The Storey County Sheriff’s Office continues to review all information related to the incident and urges witnesses to come forward. It also keeps a record of threatening and harassing calls received since the incident. The Sheriff’s Office stated that it will review each case individually and will determine whether to conduct separate investigations based on the circumstances.
