The Nebraska State Muzzleloaders Championship Shoot takes place on Labor Day weekend

CAIRO — The United Nebraska Muzzleloaders Association’s annual State Shoot will be held again on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 2, at the Red White and Blue Range, 3 miles west and 3 miles north of Cairo. Range hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday.

Participants must be members of the state association. Non-members may join the state association at the Score Shack for a fee of $30. Children under 15 shoot free.

The event includes competitions for different weapon classes, distances and age groups. There are competitions for men, women, juniors, sub-juniors, seniors and women. New additions include competitions with traditional bow and arrow and special competitions for inline rifles. In all traditional competitions, round bullets and black powder or black powder substitute must be used.

Other activities include a potluck and Dutch oven cooking contest on Saturday night. Championship prizes, awarded in Traders Bucks and medals, will be presented at 1 p.m. on Sept. 2.

Camping is available on the range grounds. The gate to the range will be open on Thursday 29 August – come for a day or camp for the whole weekend. Visitors are welcome.
