The It Takes A Village afterschool classes at the Goodman South Madison Library were created to foster community and provide a safe place for young visitors ages 12-18 to spend time after school. Programs exploring various arts, crafts and remedial activities are offered at the Goodman South Madison Library from 4-6 p.m. throughout the fall.
Upcoming events:
Let’s let off steam
Mondays, 4-6pm
This collaboration with community science partners is a journey into science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) and will help funders and families. The goal is to engage, motivate, empower, and expose teens and tweens to all kinds of STEAM activities through hands-on learning. We’ll get dirty, have fun, and learn something interesting. Registration is not required, but we encourage participation in the entire program.
Let’s start here
Tuesdays, 4-6pm
During this open time for tweens and teens, we provide materials for various arts and crafts projects. Children can get involved in projects that interest them and let their creativity flow. This is an open after-school program – no registration is required.
Digital Arts with Nate
Wednesdays, 4-6pm
Nate from The Bubbler is an expert in film production, editing, animation, game design, graphic design, and digital art. Meet Nate and explore your passions in digital production – you could get help with homework projects, create something fun for your social media, explore future career opportunities, and more.
Let’s make game day
Thursdays, 4-6pm
Join the game! Check out the Goodman South Madison Library’s extensive board game collection or play video games in the youth section. You can even try some interactive and educational virtual reality games developed by UW-Madison researchers. All materials are provided. This is a drop-in program – no registration is required.
Choice for teenagers
Fridays, 4-6pm
Join us on Fridays at the Goodman South Madison Library for Teen Time. Teens can choose what they want to do each time, but we have activities lined up from 4-6pm to keep them busy. Board games, art and maker projects, crafts, video games, and empowerment opportunities like vision boards and STEM experiments, coordinated by Youth Librarian Will G. and with various community partners. Meet other teens from your neighborhood and enjoy the after-school community.
