A suspect driving an allegedly stolen car was arrested after a chaotic chase Sunday that ended in Boyle Heights.
At around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, KCAL began broadcasting a pursuit of a gray car on the Pomona (60) Freeway in East Los Angeles. As the man behind the wheel became increasingly erratic, authorities called off the pursuit, but a sheriff’s helicopter kept the car in sight.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., the driver pulled into an alley near South Fetterly Avenue and Telegraph Road, where he and a female passenger carrying a backpack exited the car. He got back in and continued driving recklessly through traffic in the South Gate and East Los Angeles areas and into Boyle Heights.
At around 6:45 p.m., he drove onto the Hollywood Freeway (101) northbound, exited near Fourth Street, and continued on country roads. He stopped at a gas station at one point, but did not stop.
He pulled into a parking lot near East Olympic Boulevard and Orme Avenue, parked the car in one spot, and then ran away on foot through a residential area, removing his white T-shirt along the way.
Near Wynwood Lane and Camulos Place, a California Highway Patrol officer grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground. Two other officers arrived moments later and handcuffed him.
The man’s name was not immediately released.
