Steelers, Pirates and Riverhounds are all in action this weekend for a Pittsburgh sports spectacle

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Things are going to get exciting on the North Shore this weekend, starting tonight with the Pirates’ homecoming.

They’re not the only team preparing for a showdown on the North Shore. The Steelers will be back in action, too.

This means it will be busy starting tonight as parking lots fill up for Friday night’s fireworks at PNC Park.

It has been a tough ride for the Buccos, who are returning from an away tour in which they failed to win a single game and are in the midst of a ten-game losing streak.

This streak is 14th in franchise history and the team has lost ten games in a row last year and in 2021.

The Pirates host the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series with rookie phenom Paul Skenes as the starter. They hope he can get off to another good start and help the team get back on track.

They face a team that is in the midst of the playoff race while the Mariners battle for the top spot in the American League West.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

Then we have an absolutely tough Saturday ahead of us, as the Steelers play their second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

The two teams had a joint practice at Acrisure Stadium on Thursday and will face each other on Saturday. Fans can get their first look at new signing and expected starting quarterback Russell Wilson.

There is also news from the Steelers: The team is reportedly seeking a new contract for top wide receiver George Pickens.

According to our news partner at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steeles plan to pay him the salary of a No. 1 wide receiver even if they find a way to pry Brandon Aiyuk away from San Francisco.

The Steelers and Pirates aren’t the only Pittsburgh teams taking the field this weekend – as we leave the North Shore and head to the South Shore, the Riverhounds are back in action on Saturday.

They face the Colorado Springs Switchbacks and you can watch the game at Highmark Stadium or here on KDKA+ at 7 p.m.

It’s going to be a Pittsburgh sporting spectacle and the only thing missing are the Penguins, but training camp is just around the corner!
