Spartans split two games at Bellevue East Invitational

Class A No. 6 Lincoln East split games at the Bellevue East Invitational on Friday, defeating Omaha Mercy 14-2 and losing to the Chieftains 3-2.

Against Omaha Mercy, the Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scored four more runs in the second inning and eight more runs in the third inning to end the game.

Lincoln East had 11 hits in the game, led by Nevaeh Coleman and Ava Martinez, who were both 2-for-3 at bat and had a double. Ava Fessler got the win on the mound, throwing five strikeouts and allowing four hits.

Lincoln East started the day trailing 2-0 against Bellevue East and was unable to overcome the deficit. The Spartans had the tying run on third base, but the Spartans struck out and ended the game. Lincoln East also committed three errors in the game.

Lincoln North Star 10, Elkhorn 7: The Gators, also competing in the Bellevue East Invitational, scored three runs in the fifth inning to beat the Antlers, including a two-run shot by Hailey Boltz. Dempsey Whitmore, Haylee Van Pelt and Avari Osenti each hit 2 for 3, as did Boltz, who got the win on the mound.
