Severe thunderstorm warning issued

BROOKHAVEN – The National Weather Service in Jackson is warning that severe weather is possible for Lincoln County and southwest Mississippi Sunday evening. A severe weather warning was issued around 10 a.m.
The severe weather warning is in effect until 11 p.m., according to the NWS office in Jackson. The warning is in effect for Lincoln, Lawrence, Franklin and Copiah counties, while a severe weather watch is in effect until midnight. The warning states that there are radar-reported wind gusts of 60 mph that could affect Brookhaven and the surrounding area. Hailstones less than 75 inches in size could accompany the storm.
NWS Jackson is forecasting a risk of severe storms with possible hail and strong winds. Lincoln County has a slight risk of severe storms with damaging wind gusts possibly reaching 60 to 70 mph. Hail could be up to the size of a quarter.
Entergy reports that 16,626 customers across Mississippi are without power as of 10 p.m.
