KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – A greater Kansas City organization hosted its second annual pickleball tournament over the weekend – all in the name of supporting cancer patients.
On Sunday, August 18, members of Food for the Cure gathered at Chicken N Pickle at 5901 W. 135th St. in Overland Park for the organization’s second annual Feed Their Fight pickleball tournament.
About 24 teams competed in the $80 tournament between 9 a.m. and noon. Admission was free for spectators. A silent auction and bake sale also helped raise funds during the event.
Organizers noted that the goal of the tournament was to raise funds to continue providing free organic produce to the University Health System’s oncology department and other cancer patients in the greater Kansas City area.
Founder Andrew Fitzgerald said there is nothing better than giving back.
“When you give something to someone who needs the food, their face lights up like you’re handing them a bar of gold,” Fitzgerald enthused. “They’re just so grateful and happy to receive fresh produce, especially because the taste and nutritional value is good for their body and soul.”
