Former West Virginia center Zach Frazier made his first career NFL start on Saturday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Buffalo Bills.
Although Pittsburgh’s starting lineup has only managed one first down in four drives, everyone remains pleased with Frazier’s progress. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he was “mostly pleased” with Frazier’s play, while quarterback Russell Wilson gave his opinion on the rookie center.
“The great thing about him is he’s played so much football. He’s played so many games, he started at the highest level in college. He’s tough, he works so hard. And that’s rare to find as a freshman – guys that are so professional and have such good focus. He did a great job tonight and made a lot of great decisions. He went up against a really good front tonight and he was composed. He didn’t flinch. He’s not afraid. I’m excited to see where he goes.”
Fellow center Nate Herbig is dealing with a “serious” shoulder injury, meaning the door could be wide open for Frazier to become a regular. An update on Herbig’s injury is expected in the next few days.
