The purchasing team of the city’s finance department has been recognized for its loyalty and professionalism for the sixth time.
From playground equipment to police cars, street lights, flood gates and pump stations, all of the City of Virginia Beach’s assets are procured by a team of employees in the Department of Finance’s Purchasing Division. Now, that team has been recognized for adhering to the highest national standards of management and professionalism.
For the sixth time, the City of Virginia Beach Purchasing Department has been awarded the prestigious Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) award for 2024 by the National Procurement Institute Inc. (NPI).
The AEP Award is given to agencies that meet or exceed national standards for innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership. Virginia Beach’s procurement department also received the award in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
“This award is a testament to the Purchasing Department’s teamwork and collaboration, as well as their commitment to building relationships and providing exceptional service to city departments as we assist them in fulfilling their missions for the residents of Virginia Beach,” said John D. Tigert, Deputy Purchasing Manager.
For 2024, Virginia Beach was one of 72 cities nationwide to receive the award. The award also demonstrates the success of the purchasing department’s investments in training and certifications, as well as its support from other city departments, including information technology, budget and city administration.
