GAME OF THE WEEK
Bonneville at Madison High School, 7 p.m.
Story: The two teams last played against each other in 2021, with Madison earning a 26-7 non-conference victory.
The opening non-conference game should be a good test for both teams as they both look to find the right players and gain some early momentum before the crucial conference season begins. The Bobcats and Bees play in arguably the most competitive conferences in the state, namely 6A and 5A, so any win is a good win.
Key to the game: Shane Stephenson takes over as head coach of the Bees and has implemented new offensive and defensive systems. There was a quarterback competition in training camp, so Eli Hamilton and Brock Faulkner could both get some playing time.
Madison has a core group of experienced returners and will definitely challenge Bonneville’s defense with first-team All-Conference running back Barkley Beck and honorable mention running back Hazen Torgerson returning behind an experienced line.
“We want to try to establish ourselves on our home field,” Madison coach Chandler Rhoads said at the start of the season. “We just want to set a physical tone.”
