Preview capsule for the August 30th game

Madison in the South

What: Non-league game

When: 7pm, August 30

Where: Harry E. Winters Stadium

records: Madison 0-1, South 0-1

Last week: Shaker Heights defeats South 28-14, Perry defeats Madison 42-10

For the record: Both teams are coming off a loss in Week 1, but both have an asterisk, as Shaker has one of the best players in the country in its ranks in Trey McNutt (an Oregon player) and Perry is the defending Division V state champion and is ready for any eventuality. … First-year QB Will Randall threw a touchdown pass to lead Madison’s offense in the opener. RB James Poe is the biggest running threat, while receivers feature Mac Steele and the versatile Alexander Davis, who could play anywhere. Madison’s defense will look to tighten things up this week. … South is young this year but talented and has big potential. Sophomore QB Luke Jensen has plenty of experience at the receiver position with seniors Mason Matriano, Brady Namestnik and Drew Vilk. Spreading opposing defenses with receivers like that can open up running lanes for Jayden Hardy in the run game. … Both teams would like to get a win this week to avoid a 0-2 start and gain momentum for the future.

Ohio High School Football Notebook: LaVerde’s 250th win is one of the highlights of the state’s first week
