President Masisi attends SADC Summit in Zimbabwe

The President of Botswana, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, will attend the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on 17 August 2024.

The 44th SADC Summit will be hosted by the Republic of Zimbabwe, which holds the incoming SADC Presidency. The theme is: “Promoting innovation to create opportunities for sustainable economic growth and development towards an industrialised SADC.”

The Summit will, among other things, review progress in the implementation of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020-2030 and provide updates on key issues such as the region’s peace and security agenda. At the 44th SADC Summit, the SADC Chairmanship will be handed over from His Excellency Mr Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, President of Angola, to His Excellency Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe.

The Summit will be preceded by a series of meetings, including the SADC Ministerial Council, which will be held on 13 and 14 August 2024, and the SADC Organ Troika Summit, which will be held on 16 August 2024.

On the sidelines of the 44th SADC Summit, SADC Heads of State and Government will participate in high-level events, including visits to the Geo Pomona waste management facility and the Museum of Africa Liberation, which showcases African culture and liberation history.

President Masisi will be accompanied by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lemogang Kwape and senior government officials. President Masisi and his delegation will return to Gaborone on 18 August 2024.
