Police initially concluded that Kafle did not meet enough of the Virginia State Police’s criteria to be more than a missing person.
“Even if she was desperate, even if she was going through something, she wouldn’t have left her daughter,” her friend Nadia Navarro told 7News. “She was very self-sacrificing in that regard, no matter what happened.”
After she was reported missing by the Virginia State Police, detectives continued to investigate her disappearance.
Given her lack of contact with the people around her and other circumstances, investigators were able to upgrade her residency status to involuntary.
According to Manassas Park police, Kafle’s husband, friends and colleagues have cooperated during the investigation.
At a gathering outside the headquarters, some of her relatives took the podium and said that Mamta had already left her home twice earlier this year, each time for a few days.
But both times she told her family where she was.
Here’s how you can help. If you see Mamta, call the police.
She is described as 1.52 m tall, weighing 60 kg, with black hair and brown eyes.
Police are asking the public to report any information regarding Mamta’s whereabouts or related to the case to the Manassas Park Police Department at 703-361-1136.
