PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are beginning to explore alternative avenues for their wide receiver position, moving on from Brandon Aiyuk and looking at other available names. According to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, the team has called both the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans about their available wideouts.
“The Steelers have been in contact regarding Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick and Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III as the roster reduction deadline approaches, multiple sources said.Steelers now,“, writes Saunders.
According to Jordan Schultz of The Score, several teams have contacted the Texans about signing Metchie. At this time, there is no known urgency for the Texans to trade him, but with other teams showing interest, they could make the move.
As for the Broncos, they are expected to either trade or give up wide receiver Tim Patrick this offseason. Given the large number of wide receivers, Patrick is out of the picture and after two serious injuries in back-to-back seasons, he will be out of action in Denver.
The Steelers could use a new addition at the wide receiver position and are expected to find one over the summer. While Aiyuk remains the hottest name on the market and the Steelers have him in their sights, it was only a matter of time before they looked at other options during roster cuts.
Metchie and Patrick likely aren’t the only ones on Pittsburgh’s radar over the next 24 hours. And with roster cuts approaching and teams under pressure to make deals or trade players, the Steelers will be scouring the league for their chance.
Currently, the Steelers are firmly convinced that they will have a new name on their wide receiver roster before Week 1. It looks like they will start asking prices for Metchie and Patrick.
