Pittsburgh police arrest suspect in connection with non-fatal July shooting in East Liberty
FREEHOLD, NJ — A Red Bank man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Shrewsbury that left a pedestrian dead earlier this month, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Friday.
Jose Rodriguez-Jimenez, 40, is accused of intentionally leaving the scene of an accident under certain circumstances.
The incident occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, when Shrewsbury Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting an unconscious man lying in the right northbound lane of Shrewsbury Avenue. The victim, identified as 23-year-old Mariano Codallos-Tepepa of Brick, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation led by the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) in conjunction with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau and Shrewsbury Police Department determined that Codallos-Tepepa was struck by a Ford Econoline van driven by Rodriguez-Jimenez. It was also determined that Rodriguez-Jimenez failed to stop at the scene of the accident or report the collision to law enforcement.
Assistant District Attorney Caitlin J. Sidley of the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case. Information about Rodriguez-Jimenez’s legal representation was not immediately available.
