The Reds faced the Toronto Blue Jays in their last series. Cincinnati lost on Tuesday, but otherwise picked up two wins to win the series. On Thursday, the Reds lost their opener to the Pirates 7-0. On the Pirates side, they played against the Texas Rangers in the final set. Pittsburgh won on Tuesday but lost in the other two games. On Friday, the Pirates were less successful and won, 9-8. Starter Bailey Falter completed 5.0 innings with five earned runs.

Pittsburgh’s Jake Woodford will start Saturday’s game. This year, Woodford is 0-5 with a 6.67 ERA in seven games (five starts). Woodford is 10-12 with a 4.59 ERA in 87 career games (23 starts).

Prediction for Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds

I’m leaning toward the Reds. That’s partly due to Woodford’s shaky performances of late. In his last trio, Woodford got off to a good start with 6.0 innings and an earned run against the Padres. In the other pair, however, he’s totaled eight earned runs in 6.1 innings, and Woodford is 0-3 in the trio.

On Friday, the Reds blew a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning and were unable to get anything done against Pittsburgh’s bullpen. Cincinnati will have to avoid a collapse on the mound on Saturday, but I think they have a good chance to rebound.
