MADISON, Nebraska – One person is in custody following a standoff outside a Madison home Thursday afternoon.

Madison Police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in the 300 block of East Second Street in Madison at 12:53 p.m. Thursday, according to Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk.

A caller reported that a man held a knife to another man’s throat and threatened to kill him.

When officers arrived, they did not find the victim in the home, but the suspect, Latitus Menyweather, was still in the home.

After attempting to contact Menyweather, he threatened officers and barricaded himself in the house.

A section of Highway 32 was closed for safety reasons.

Police negotiated with Menyweather for two and a half hours before he left the house and was taken into custody.

Volk said no one was injured in the standoff.

Menyweather was taken to the Madison County Jail.

He is accused of terrorist threats, false imprisonment, use of weapons to commit a crime and obstructing the police.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Norfolk Police, Madison Sheriff Tactical Team and the City of Madison assisted on scene.
