After trading Kenny Pickett, signing Russell Wilson, and trading for Justin Fields, there is no doubt that the Pittsburgh Steelers have improved their quarterback situation ahead of the 2024 season.
However, if you ask Mike Greenberg of ESPN, the Steelers made two mistakes by signing Fields and Wilson, which he obviously doesn’t think much of.
During a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Greenberg didn’t hold back his opinion on the Steelers’ playmakers, saying Pittsburgh has gone from having one bad quarterback to having two bad quarterbacks.
This comment came as Greenberg questioned whether it would make sense for the Steelers to sign San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, as he doubted Pittsburgh would be a contender.
“Is Pittsburgh (a contender)?” Greenberg asked. “That’s a really interesting question because while I remain a Justin Fields fan, I have to admit that at some point doubts arise. The Steelers may have replaced one bad quarterback with two bad quarterbacks. That could have happened here.”

Fields and Wilson have undoubtedly had their struggles in recent years, but they have both proven that they are infinitely better than Pickett, who may not even be good enough to play backup for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Putting these two on the same level as Pickett – and especially a Super Bowl-winning quarterback like Wilson – is just silly.
Not to mention, the Steelers made the playoffs last season despite Pickett and the offensive line’s issues, securing their spot with Mason Rudolph at quarterback.
So, yes, trading for Aiyuk would be a logical move for a team that is coming off a 10-win playoff season. And the Steelers are much better positioned at the quarterback position than they were a year ago.
