New York scored all of its runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Illinois in an elimination game Sunday at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Starter Vincent Ruggiero allowed two hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in five innings, and Dean Scarangello allowed a hit and a walk while striking out a batter in one inning to end the game for the Metro Region champions from Staten Island, NY (2-1).
Scarangello had one of New York’s nine hits and scored two runs, while Nicholas McLean, Jake Romero and Dylan DeGaeta each had two hits.
Great Lakes Region champion Hinsdale, Illinois, moved to a 0-2 record after losses to Hawaii (West Region) on Friday and New York.
Mexico 8, Canada 0
Antonio Guerrero hit two doubles, made 3 out of 3 and scored three times for Mexico (2-1), which eliminated Canada (1-2) in the International Bracket.
Raul Hernandez Jr., Francisco Aguilar and Dominic Balderas combined to pitch the two-hit shutout for the team from Tamaulipas, Mexico. Luis Longoria struck out two runs, while Hernandez and Ulises Ortiz scored one run each.
Surrey, Canada – which lost to Taiwan (Asia-Pacific) on Wednesday and eliminated Puerto Rico on Saturday – scored a total of two singles goals on Sunday through Ronan Bobilies and Eric Popovich.
