His smiling face is nothing new to local softball fans. He has served as an assistant coach for the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls for several seasons as well as an assistant coach for the MCHS Cowboys football team. He has also successfully coached the Madison County Central School Lady Broncos, helped turn the Hamilton High School Lady Trojans softball team, which went winless in the 2020-21 season, into a playoff contender with a single-season winning record, and has been very active as an umpire for Babe Ruth softball and several travel ball tournaments in the area. Now, Morris Bell will bring his 30 years of coaching experience to the table as he takes over as the new head coach of the MCHS Cowgirls softball team.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to return to Madison County,” said Coach Bell. “It was God’s will. I’m very proud to be able to come back to represent Madison County and carry on the legacy of the program. For me, this is a full circle experience. My job will be to do better and leave it better than I found it. Madison County has great student-athletes. We have a great group of kids coming back and I believe if we come together and work hard in the offseason, we can accomplish our goal.”

Coach Bell will graduate from the University of Phoenix in the fall with a degree in criminal justice. He is also pastor of the Sanctuary of Praise Church in Greenville. His motto is a passage from St. Paul’s letter to the church in Rome: “We know that all good things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)”

Coach Bell said the team will use the phrase “We Belong Here” as their motto for the season. It’s clear that Coach Bell definitely belongs at the helm and leading the Cowgirls.

Coach Bell is married to his wife Suretta. They have three children.
