The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is looking to train its next class of patrol officers who can be deployed throughout the state. According to a recent press release, applications are now being accepted at NebraskaTroopers.com.
The application process runs until September 9, 2024. Camp 71 begins in January 2025. Graduation is planned for June 2025.
Nebraska Troopers have many different duties including specialty positions such as criminal investigator, dog handler, accident investigator, pilot, tactical flight officer, crisis negotiator, drone operator, hazardous materials technician and many more. Troopers can also serve in specialty units such as SWAT team, carrier enforcement, bomb disposal squad, personal protection, training academy, mobile field force and husker football detail.
The starting salary for a Nebraska State Trooper is $31.50 per hour ($65,520 annually) after completing the NSP Training Academy. Troopers also have the opportunity for additional compensation, including overtime at a pay rate of 1.5 times their base pay, shift premiums of an additional $0.85 per hour if regularly assigned to the night shift, and a 2.5 percent pay increase for bilingualism. Troopers also receive an excellent retirement plan.
The NSP Training Academy offers an extensive 24-week training program. Recruits go through numerous real-life scenarios and hundreds of hours of classroom instruction to prepare them for a career serving Nebraska. While training at the NSP Training Academy, recruits are paid $28.01 per hour.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and at least 21 years of age at the time of graduation when taking the oath of office. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
