Oklahoma State defeated the No. 6 seed Nebraska football team 2-0 on Thursday at Hibner Stadium in the two teams’ season opener.
Florence Belzile finally got a shot on goal for the Huskers in the second half, and Nebraska finished the game with 22 shots, four of which were on goal.
Oklahoma State’s quality over quantity approach paid off. The Cowgirls fired 13 shots, five on goal, including two goals that put Nebraska out of reach.
An injury to the Huskers on one side turned into an Oklahoma State goal on the other side by Lexi Lee in the 66th minute, giving the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead. Adelhia Ghonda gave OSU another goal in the 74th minute. Sarah Weber, who led Nebraska with six shots on goal, suffered a cramp near the Cowgirls’ goal just before Lee’s first goal.
Nebraska started the first half with an aggressive approach, taking nine corner kicks to one for Oklahoma State and had more shots on goal than the Cowgirls in the first 45 minutes (9-6).
