Montgomery’s top five defensive backs to watch for the 2024 season

After a long summer of practices, recruiting visits, and 7-on-7 action across the state of Alabama, fall practices for high school football have finally begun and the season starts in just one week.

With so many talented athletes in the Montgomery area, here are our top five returning defensive backs to keep an eye on during the 2024 football season.

Justin Hardiman

Park Crossing, Sr.

Analysis: Hardiman was named to the All-Area second team in 2023. He will be a key part of Percy Julian’s defense under new coach Charles Biggers.

Jordan Holmes

Pike Road, Jr.Analysis: Holmes finished last season with 307 all-purpose yards and one touchdown. On defense, he finished the season with 28 solo tackles, 26 assisted tackles, two tackles for loss and four interceptions. He was named to the first-team All-Area list in both football and basketball.

Jotavion Pierce

Montgomery Catholic Orthodox Church, Sr.Analysis: Pierce finished 2023 with 91 solo tackles, 41 assisted tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack and one interception. On offense, he posted 464 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns.

Ricky Williams

Montgomery Catholic Orthodox Church, Sr.Analysis: Williams finished 2023 with 85 solo tackles, 41 assisted tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions. He was also a member of the first team All-Area along with teammate Jo Pierce.

Josh Whiting

Percy Julian, Sr.

Analysis: Whiting was named to the All-Area second team last season. Now he will compete in competitive Class 6A against some of the state’s best wideouts.
