Montgomery County Agricultural Fair celebrates 75 years of fun and tradition with exciting exhibits | Communities

The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, Maryland’s largest annual event, is celebrating its 75th anniversary through Saturday. With a variety of agricultural exhibits, activities, entertainment and food to choose from, there’s something for everyone.

Exciting entertainment and events

Demolition Derby and Renegade Monster Truck Tour

For an additional fee of $18 at the gate and $15 online, show attendees can experience the thrilling action of the Renegade Monster Truck Tour and Demolition Derby “Night of Destruction.” On Thursday night, Renegade Monster Truck Tour attendees can watch Killer Bee, Stinger Unleashed, War Wizard, Toxic, Illuminator, Hooked, Stone Crusher and Shredder perform big air tricks before an autograph and photo session. At the Demolition Derby, attendees can watch an intense demolition showdown on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Magic, hypnosis and illusions

Brad Matchett combines magic, education and Maryland agriculture in his comedy show “Agricadabra” on the Community Stage of PEPCO, an Exelon company, Thursday through Friday at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. before his family-friendly, Las Vegas-style comedic hypnosis show begins at 9 p.m. Likewise, Josh & Lea Knotts will perform extreme illusions and escape tricks on the same stage Thursday through Saturday at 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Chainsaw carving

From Thursday through Saturday, at 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., fairgoers at the Farmer’s Triangle can watch chainsaw carver Joe Stebbing create a three-foot-tall masterpiece from a log, which can also be purchased.

Run

Fairgoers of all ages can participate in the Fast Action Motorsports tournaments on the Upper Grounds near Building 6 for a chance to win trophies and the Montgomery County Fair Grand Championship, held Thursday and Friday at 5:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Spectators can also watch the Show-me Pig Races near the Community Stage by PEPCO, an Exelon company, Thursday through Saturday at noon, 1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Family-friendly activities

Circus acts

From Thursday through Saturday, Danny Grant’s Cowboy Circus presents “The World’s Smallest Rodeo” in the KidZone at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., offering all visitors an interactive cowboy experience. On the Upper Grounds, Lyric Wallenda, Simon Arestov and Alexander Wallenda Arestov also perform in the Circus Incredible Show on Friday and Saturday at 12:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Roaming laws

At various times of the day, visitors can see Carrie McQueen, the ultimate stilt walker, and Harmony Express, a barbershop-style a cappella choir, parading around the fairgrounds.

Live performances

The Sons of Liberty will perform on the Maple Stage in the Kidzone from 7-10pm on Thursday, and live honey bee hunting demonstrations will take place several times throughout the day across from Old MacDonald’s Barn.

Eating and shopping

Visitors can enjoy a variety of foods, from traditional fairground favorites like funnel cakes, turkey legs and kettle corn to Latin American and Asian specialties. They can also browse handmade crafts and products from local vendors.

The fair runs from 10:00 to 23:00 on Thursday and from 10:00 to midnight from Friday to Saturday. Admission ends at 22:00 on Thursday and 23:00 on Friday and Saturday. The fair games and attractions start at 12:00 and last until the end.

Free parking is available at the Shay Grove subway station on weekends, where fairgoers can take Ride-One buses 55 and 59 for $1 per person. Parking is $5.20 on weekdays.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the gate or at mcagfair.com. Special rates apply for group purchases.
