Montessori at Hampstead begins construction of a new building

Montessori at Hampstead has begun construction on its new building in response to the rapid growth of the community and the growing waiting list of potential students.

School officials plan to open the new building in summer 2025, said Melanie Morrison, principal of the East Montgomery school.

“We’re both just very proud to have reached the point, 13 years later, where it’s actually happening in real life,” said Anna Lowder, founder and director of Hampstead.

Hampstead and the school have experienced so much growth in the last seven years that the new school was necessary. Montessori opened in 2011. The school has a capacity of 90 students, with 73 students on the waiting list.

“The school was welcomed to become part of a larger community experience for the residents of Montgomery,” Morrison said.

The school currently stands in Hampstead’s central square. The new building will be at the junction of Conduit Street and Broadwick Street.

Morrison said part of the appeal of Montessori in Hampstead is the connection between the neighborhood and the school.

“The benefit I see in education is the familiarity our families have,” Morrison said.
