Missing South Carolina man could be in northeast Georgia

The search for a missing man from Oconee County, South Carolina, has shifted to northeast Georgia.

According to a statement from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, Mark Wagnon is believed to have traveled to Rabun or Franklin County, Georgia, or Jackson County, North Carolina.

According to investigators, a hiker spotted Wagnon’s vehicle Thursday near Tower Road and Highway 107 in the Mountain Rest area of Oconee County. It was found unoccupied and with the keys inside, about 11 miles east of the Georgia border.

On August 19, the South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement issued a statewide alert that Wagnon, 66, was in danger.

“Mark requires immediate medical attention due to issues affecting his memory,” the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Since his disappearance, authorities have conducted searches and tracked Wagnon’s movements using video recordings, but have not been able to locate him.

The first major breakthrough in the case was the discovery of his car on August 22. Authorities are urging the public to be “vigilant” and keep an eye out for him.

Wagnon is a white male, approximately 5’9″ tall and weighing 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue-gray polo shirt, blue jeans, and glasses.

If you see him or know where he is, call 911 immediately.
