Missing dog found with ‘face wrapped in tape’ – recovering as shelter searches for answers
Employees of an accounting firm in Omaha found missing dog Leo in a dumpster. His face, paws and tail were wrapped in duct tape.
The Nebraska Humane Society is asking for help in finding the person who duct taped a missing dog’s face and then left the animal in a dumpster.
According to an April 15 Facebook post from the animal shelter, employees of an accounting firm in Omaha found the dog in a dumpster behind the office building.
A company employee heard noises coming from the dumpster on April 14, but they didn’t dare investigate the commotion, the shelter’s post said. The next day, company employees opened the dumpster expecting to find a raccoon, but instead found a small dog with “its entire head wrapped in duct tape.”
The Nebraska Humane Society wrote that staff found the dog with “his front and back legs also taped together and his tail wrapped in tape. There were also bits of food and other debris caked in his fur.”
According to KETV, rescuers were able to save the dog just in time.
“Luckily, we just got out when we found it because as soon as the animal control group got there, probably about 15 minutes later, the garbage man came and emptied it,” Kevin Wiederin, an employee of the accounting firm, told the outlet.
Wiederin added that he was “absolutely disgusted” by what was done to the innocent dog. “It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I can’t imagine doing that to another living being, let alone a helpless little dog, and then just throwing it away like garbage.”

The accounting firm called animal control for help. Officers carefully collected the duct-taped dog and brought him to the Nebraska Humane Society. Shelter staff tranquilized the dog shortly after arrival and worked together to systematically remove the duct tape that was encasing the furry pup.
“They had to shave him to remove any foreign objects,” the shelter wrote about what happened next, adding that the dog “woke up and was wagging his tail” after coming out of the anesthesia.
