The new owner of the old Gem Theater in Dubach has applied for heritage renovation tax relief to support the restoration of the building and the opening of a new venue.

The renovation of the old post office is well underway. The new owners have wasted no time in embarking on a major renovation of the building, including repairing the roof, restoring the exterior to its original 1910 appearance, and installing a new store inside. Although there is no official announcement yet, it is likely that the store will be a Delta Biscuit Company restaurant.

Speaking of new businesses, Dillas Quesadillas on Cooktown Road should be opening today. New staff have been trained and contractors have been putting the finishing touches on the building this weekend. Seven Brew Drive Thru Coffee just down the road won’t be far away.

A historical marker for the old post office was shipped from the factory thanks to a donation from the Lincoln Parish Museum. More details will be announced once a dedication ceremony is scheduled. The post office’s downtown location was a gathering place for the community, where customers met friends and business associates to exchange greetings and gossip.

The 2024 peach season is over. It’s a pity that we cannot harvest the juicy fruits all year round.

Rumor has it that Louisiana Tech is expecting its largest freshman class ever. The current record was set last fall. Let’s hope students arrive early to attend Tech’s first football game, scheduled for August 31, a few days before the start of the fall semester.
