WHY: The Virginia Beach-based Urban Search and Rescue Team, Virginia Task Force 2 (VA-TF2), is returning to Virginia Beach today, Sunday, August 11. They are expected to arrive at the Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center, 927 S. Birdneck Road, at 6:00 p.m. They departed Goose Creek, South Carolina, at 7:00 a.m. this morning and are expected to be on the road around 10:00 a.m.
The task force deployed to South Carolina on Monday, August 5, 2024, to prepare for Hurricane Debby. VA-TF2 USAR is one of 28 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams stationed across the country. The team originally deployed a 45-person Task Force Type 3 and 8 IST Cache.
