COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland concludes its three-game homestand against James Madison. The two teams met last season in Harrisonburg and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The game will be broadcast on B1G+.
The Terrapins lost 2-0 at home to American on August 22. After a stalemate in the first half, American took the lead in the 58th minute on a deflected ball in the box and responded with another goal four minutes later. Liz Beardsley again supported the Terps in goal and made four saves in the game.
Series History – James Madison
- The Terrapins and Dukes have met 19 times in the All-Series, with the Terps coming out on top with a record of 10-6-3. The two teams met in the 2023 season and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
- The Terps scored two goals from Lisa McIntyrethe first of which was the first of her college career. James Madison scored two goals late in the second half to tie the game.
Successful start to the season
- With Maryland’s 2-0 win over Lehigh, the Terps extended their winning streak in season-opening games to eight. In those eight games, the Terps have a record of 5-0-3.
- Since the 1995 season, the Terps have a record of 21-4-5 in season openers. The streak began on September 3, 1995, with Maryland defeating Virginia Tech 6-0 in College Park. In season openers on the road, the Terps have a record of 9-3-2 since 1995.
- With Sunday’s 2-2 tie with Stony Brook, Maryland extended its winning streak in home openers to eight. The streak began on August 18, 2017, with a 2-1 win over Drexel. In those eight home openers, the Terps have a record of 4-0-4.

Numerous premieres characterize the opening week
- Several returning Terps also experienced their own firsts during the team’s opening week.
- Kennedy Bell opened the scoring for the Terps with a right-footed shot in the 24th minute of a 2-0 win over Lehigh. The goal for Bell was her first collegiate goal. Bell converted to winger in 2024 after playing right back in 2023. Bell finished the 2023 season with one assist while playing primarily as a defender.
- Ava Morales provided the assist for Bell’s opening goal. It was the junior midfielder’s first assist. Morales was the Terps’ top scorer in the 2023 season with three goals.
- Tahirah Turnage Morales started at center back for the Terps in the season opener, the first start for the defender in nearly two years. Turnage-Morales missed the entire 2023 season due to injury and made her first appearance for the Terps since October 23, 2022 at Purdue. Turnage-Morales’ last start as a Terp was on October 20, 2022 at Indiana.
- Kelsey Smith scored her first collegiate goal in Maryland’s 2-2 tie with Stony Brook. Smith is playing her second season with the Terps after playing in all 18 games in 2023. Smith missed the 2022 season due to injury.
Shot stopper
- Liz Beardsley continues to be a stalwart goalie for the Terps. Beardsley has saved 16 shots in the first three games of the season and is currently one of the best goalies in the country. Beardsley is among the top 30 goalies in the country after three games of the season and currently leads the Big Ten in scoring.
- Beardsley was a major force in goal for the Terps during the 2023 season. Beardsley made 67 saves for the Terps in 2023. Beardsley helped the team to six shutouts last season. Her six shutouts last season were the most for a Maryland goalie since 2014.
Scouting out the Dukes
- James Madison enters the game with a record of 1-1-1. The Dukes started the season with a 3-0 win over Villanova, scoring all three of their goals in the second half. In their second game of the season, James Madison lost 2-0 at home to Virginia Tech. In their last game, James Madison played a 3-3 tie with La Salle. The Dukes took the lead early in the first half, scoring two goals to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead. La Salle cut the deficit to two goals in the 47th and 49th minutes to tie the game at 2-2. The Dukes took the lead again in the 60th minute to make the game 3-2. They held that lead until the 84th minute when La Salle scored to make it 3-3.
- Ariana Reyes is the team’s leading scorer, having scored two goals in the Dukes’ first three games. Three players are tied for the team lead with two assists, with Reyes tied with Shea Collins and Lexi Vanderlion. As a team, the Dukes have eight saves in three games, which ranks them in the top 25 nationally.
- In goal, the Dukes are led by Sofia DeCerb. DeCerb has scored 14 goals, leading the Sun Belt to start the season. DeCerb has done an excellent job of preventing shots on goal to start the season, coming into the game with a .737 save percentage.
