A Madison man has been formally charged by University of Wisconsin Police following an incident at Mosse Humanities. last autumn where he is accused of racist harassment and offensive behavior.
Lukas Nowak, a 20-year-old resident of Madison, was Monday charged with one count of terroristic threats, one count of disorderly conduct involving the use of a dangerous weapon and two counts of disorderly conduct following an investigation by UWPD, Madison Police Department and the FBI. All charges were filed by Wisconsin Hate Crimes Act.
Nowak, who has no affiliation with UW-Madison, was barred from campus as a condition of his release on bail.
On November 28, three men entered several rooms of the building and harassed students the multicultural Sigma Psi Zeta sorority, threatening Arab and Asian members using racist slurs and weapons. A member of a sorority reported physical intimidation and spitting by the men. According to UWPD, the other suspects were also not affiliated with UW-Madison.
Nowak, whom the UWPD described as the “prime suspect” in the incident, was also involved in several incidents which occurred on November 28, in which he allegedly threatened several Asian residents of the Domain apartment complex and was armed with an AR-15.
