JACKSON, Tennessee – Madison County Mayor AJ Massey offers reaction following Sunday’s fatal car crash at an intersection of McClellan Road and Windy City Road in northwest Jackson.
Mayor Massey first expressed his condolences to all those affected and offered prayers for them.
Massey agrees with Jackson Mayor Scott Conger’s decision to temporarily install rumble strips and flashing lights to alert people to an upcoming stop.
Mayor Massey believes that no traffic light or sign can stop someone from breaking the law, but that the government must take direct action to prevent future accidents.
The current plan is to look at TDOT’s accident reports to identify potential problems, figure out what the problem is, whether it’s visibility, speed or something else, and then take action accordingly.
“Mayor Conger and I talked for quite a while Monday morning about this incident and what we can do. I’m very happy to say that he and I are in agreement about spending the money that we need to spend to make sure that we have a data-driven solution to this intersection and the problems that we see there,” said Mayor AJ Massey.
Mayor Massey also said that this accident has drawn attention to other intersections that need to be reviewed.
