The 6’2″ and 195-pound wide receiver from Avon Lake, Ohio, is the Hokies’ 17th recruit in the 2025 class. He is the fifth wide receiver in the group and joins four-star talents Micah Matthews (Harrisonburg, Virginia), Matthew Outten (Portsmouth, Virginia) and Shamarius Peterkin (Winston-Salem, North Carolina) as well as three-star talent Jayden Anderson (Virginia Beach, Virginia).
A three-star prospect, Stuewe is Tech’s sixth out-of-state player in this class. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 1,671 player nationally. He’s also listed as the 84th-best prospect in Ohio, similar to On3’s ranking at No. 86.
The son of two Virginia Tech graduates, his father is former Hokies and Detroit Lions wide receiver Michael Stuewe, who caught 53 passes for 689 yards and five touchdowns in Blacksburg from 1993 to 1997.
Virginia Tech was Luke’s only Power Four offer. Many of his prospects came from Group of Five schools, including Miami (OH), Army, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Marshall, Navy and Toledo. His only official visit was to the RedHawks in June.
Two of the major recruiting sites – 247Sports and Rivals – classify Stuewe as an athlete. He was a two-way player as a wide receiver and free safety at Avon Lake High School. It’s possible he could get a look at the safety position in Blacksburg as well.
He is the 10th of Tech’s 17 commitments on the offensive side of the ball. It is the second year in a row that the Hokies have signed talent from the state of Ohio. In the class of 2024, they signed defensive lineman Andrew Hanchuk (Cleveland) and offensive lineman Tommy Ricard (Hudson).
