Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Lowndes County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bill Slaughter to the Georgia Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).
The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) operates five state-run psychiatric hospitals and provides community-based services throughout the state through contracted providers. The department serves people with mental health issues, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or a combination of these disorders. As Georgia’s public safety net, the DBHDD’s primary responsibility is to serve people who are uninsured. It also serves individuals with Medicaid and others with few resources or options.
“I am truly honored to be appointed to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Board,” said Chairman Bill Slaughter. “I look forward to contributing to our board’s efforts to improve mental health and developmental disabilities services across the state.”
Chairman Bill Slaughter has served as Chairman of the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners since 2013. During his tenure, he has been actively involved in various civic groups, industry associations and local councils, including the Homebuilders Association of South Georgia, Construction Industry Licensing Board of Georgia, Lowndes-Valdosta Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Greater Lowndes Planning Commission and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation Board. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Lowndes Class of 2007 and a member of the Legacy Behavioral Health Community Service Board. In addition, he has held leadership roles such as Chairman of the Transportation Investment Act Executive Committee and Chairman of the Citizens Review Panel for the Transportation Investment Act, where he oversaw transportation projects for the southern region.
Chairman Slaughter will serve on the DBHDD Board of Directors for a three-year term, where his extensive experience and commitment to public service will be invaluable in advancing the Department’s mission.
