USC coach Lincoln Riley took the job at USC in part because he remembered how special and electrifying the program was when Pete Carroll turned it into a dynasty at the beginning of the century. Riley recently shared his thoughts on Pete Carroll’s return to USC during a video conference with the media:

“I’d love to have him there,” Riley told the reporter. “He’s great. Coach has been great to me. We’ve had the opportunity to meet quite a few times and check in on him. He’s been a great resource and — a great person to ask questions to and he’s been very good to me.”

“So, yeah, I’m really excited that he’s going to be here more often and it would be crazy not to have him here. Whether in an official capacity or not, he’s made it very clear that we have a good open line of communication. That’s one that I really appreciate and respect and we’ll never hesitate to pick up the phone and call him or reach out to him because he’s obviously been so successful as a coach and he’s obviously got a great knowledge of this place. So I’m grateful for his help and his friendship and I’m excited to have him here a lot more often.”
