The pastor of a Catholic church in Lincoln is recovering in an Omaha hospital after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle on a highway near Schuyler.
The Reverend Mike Morin, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, was injured in the accident on Sunday afternoon, the Diocese of Lincoln said in a statement.
“He is recovering from his injuries at an Omaha hospital and is doing well,” diocese spokesman Dennis Kellogg said in an email. “He hopes to be released from the hospital in a few days. Please pray for him.”
Kellogg said Morin was in Schuyler to hold a retreat for married couples and made the bike ride during a break.
The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office in Schuyler had no further information on the accident Monday evening.

Wednesday’s high, which reached into the upper 80s, will likely be the highest in several days. The National Weather Service is forecasting highs between 70 and about 80 degrees through the weekend, about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Todd Heiser of Lincoln makes one of five trips a day Monday to drop off tree debris at a collection site at Holmes Lake Park. JJ Yost, assistant director of Parks and Recreation, said the Holmes Lake waste collection site is one of the busiest — and also one of the smallest. The city has brought equipment to all waste collection sites to collect the tree debris. At Holmes Lake, workers also used a shredder to further process the waste. Yost said the city is encouraging residents to use other sites, including Seng Park (south of the ballfields); Woods Park (south lot on J Street); Oak Lake Park (main lot on Charleston Street); and Hofeling Enterprises, 2200 South Folsom Court. City parks will accept trash through Aug. 19.
