Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: August 26, 2024

As the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reported on Monday, August 26:

On 8/20/2024, a patrol officer stopped a vehicle at E. Main St. and S. Memorial Dr. in the Town of Merrill for lane departure and speeding. When the patrol officer made contact with the driver, a 28-year-old woman from Mosinee, they noticed signs of impairment. The woman was then asked to perform a sobriety test, but she refused. The woman was then arrested for DUI (1st offense). She was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail where she was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and bail jumping.

On 8/22/2024, an officer was dispatched to the area of ​​STH 17 and Gross Ln. in the Town of Russell for a vehicle in a ditch. After arriving at the scene, the officer tracked down the vehicle owner to his home address. The officer made contact with the 62-year-old Gleason man. Upon contacting the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment. The officer then asked the driver to perform some sobriety tests, which the man refused, at which point the officer arrested him for a first offense OWI.

On 8/23/2024, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office with a disturbance on North Road in the City of Nokomis. The ONSO reported that they had an open line to an address in that area and all they could hear was yelling in the background. When the LISO officer arrived on scene, he encountered the two suspects, a 58-year-old male and a 25-year-old male, both of Tomahawk. After making contact, the 25-year-old male attempted to flee on foot, which resulted in a short chase. The LISO officer was able to apprehend the suspect and then turned him over to ONSO officers. The investigation was then closed by the ONSO.

On 8/23/2024, a deputy was called to the area of ​​Echo Valley Road and Echo Point Road for a shooting. The deputy reported hearing a series of gunshots followed by an animal screaming in pain. A short time later, the deputy reported that a woman was observed in the area calling for her dog. Investigation revealed that the dog was outside running after a deer. A very short time later, the gunshots were heard and the dog never returned home. Based on information from the dog’s owner, the deputy located a suspect believed to be responsible for shooting the dog. The suspect admitted to shooting at the time, but denied shooting a dog. The suspect gave the deputy an opportunity to look around and no evidence of the dog was found. This case remains under investigation.

On 8/24/2024, officers were dispatched to investigate a reported vehicle in the ditch on S. Pier Lake Road in the Town of Wilson. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver, a 53-year-old female from Tomahawk. Upon contacting the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment, at which point he asked the driver to complete some sobriety tests. As a result of these tests, the driver was arrested for fourth offense OWI. During the investigation, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office notified LISO that they were investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred in their county prior to this incident. All information, as well as pictures, were sent to ONSO for investigation. The driver was then transported to Aspirus Tomahawk Hospital for medical evaluation before being transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 8/25/2024, officers were dispatched to the area of ​​the Tripoli Gas Station in the Town of Somo in search of a male offender who had been behaving disorderly and threatening to kill the R/P. When the first officer arrived on scene, he located and made contact with the suspect, a 37-year-old Wausau man. The officer attempted to speak with the suspect, but he was uncooperative. The suspect attempted to walk away from the officer and enter a home, at which point the officer informed him that he was being arrested and searched him for weapons. The suspect physically resisted the officer’s attempts to take him into custody. The officer was successful in apprehending the offender, however, the suspect continued to resist until backup arrived. The suspect was eventually transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was arrested for bail jumping, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest. No injuries were reported as a result of this contact.

The officers carried out 45 traffic stops and 22 security checks.

The officers were equipped to respond to four accidents between cars and deer.

Complaints regarding driving: 12.

The emergency call center received three hung-up calls and eleven harassment calls.
